Slough Primary Shortlisted for Education’s Oscars

Raminder Singh Vig – Headteacher of Khalsa Primary School in the running to win Pearson National Teaching Award for Headteacher of the Year category.

Sakara Foot – shortlisted for Teacher of the Year.

Khalsa Primary School in Slough is celebrating two members of staff being shortlisted for the Silver Awards. Headteacher Raminder Singh Vig and teacher Sakara Foot have both been recognised for their work. They are two of 87 extraordinary shortlisted nominees from lecturers, school staff and schools who have been entered for the prestigious Pearson National Teaching Awards.

Mr Raminder Singh Vig was nominated for a Silver Award for leading a struggling school to success and building upon an idea of a truly community focused education. His positive values and strength of character have provided a focus for all staff, students, and parents within his area.

Mrs Sakara Foot has been recognized for her determination and enthusiasm to be an exceptional teacher and mentor, and for offering a range of initiatives both inside class and beyond.

They are both in the running to be Silver Award winners. These will then compete to win one of just 14 Gold Awards which will be announced at the televised UK ceremony later in the year, broadcast on the BBC as ‘Britain’s Classroom Heroes’.

The Pearson National Teaching Awards is an annual celebration of exceptional teachers, founded in 1998 by Lord David Puttnam to recognise the life-changing impact an inspirational teacher can have on the lives of the young people they teach.

But for me the passion she has for education and the investment into each one of our pupils and how enjoyable she makes their learning is what makes Sakara so special. Regardless of the outcome of the awards, Sakara will always be recognised as a star at Khalsa Primary School.”
