Communication and Language
This month the children in Nursery have been reading the story of The Gruffalo. Our children have been acting out the story of The Gruffalo using masks and props. They loved to make different sounds according to the different animals in the story such as the Mouse, the Fox, the Owl and the Snake. Our children worked together to retell the story whilst describing The Gruffalo. We were able to use words such as orange eyes, terrible tusks, black tongue and purple prickles. We used our story map to help us to retell and act out the story of The Gruffalo and also make different actions for the characters.

Exploring Media and Materials
This month in Nursery we have been learning to recognise and name different colours around us. We have been exploring how to mix paints to create different colours and spoke about what colours we use to create a new colour. We explored the colours that make up different characters from The Gruffalo story such as how to make green for the snake and brown for the Gruffalo. We have been learning how to hold a paint brush correctly when painting characters from the story and we have been exploring what marks we can make with a thick brush and what marks we can make with a thin brush.

Literacy
This month is Nursery we have been listening and reading the story of The Gruffalo. We have been using our story map to retell the story using actions and phrases from the story. We have been drawing and describing the Gruffalo using words such as purple prickles, terrible tusks and black tongue. Whilst drawing our Gruffalo we have been learning how to hold a pencil correctly using two fingers and our thumb. We have also been looking at the amount of pressure that we put from pencil to paper to make marks for our Gruffalo drawings.
Maths
This month in Reception we have been learning to count from 1 to 10. We have been learning to recognise and say the correct number to its form. We have been learning to write these numbers in different places and using different media such as pencil, whiteboard pens, chalk and crayons. We have been looking at using our magic fingers and rocket hands to form large numbers in the air whilst following the instructions given by the teacher. Well done Nursery for being able to try and say numbers from 1 to 10 in the correct order and write them down using your favourite media.
Personal, Social, Emotional Development
This month in Reception we have been reading the story of The Gruffalo and we have been looking at the way the Gruffalo looks and how the different the Gruffalo looks compared to others around him. We looked in detail at how each of us look in terms of physical features and what our friends look like. We learnt the importance of being kind and nice to each other and not judging others for what they look like. We are all as one human race! We learnt about how quickly the animals in the story judged the Gruffalo for what he looked like without actually meeting him in person. We learnt the importance of making friends with every one regardless of the way that they appear to look.
Physical Development
This month in Nursery we have been focusing on Yoga as part of our mindfulness and well-being. We have been looking at different ways of moving our body such as bending, stretching, turning, jumping, leaping and twisting in different ways. Children in Nursery were able to run on the spot and stop to see what is happening to their heart when they run really fast. We compared it to how our heart felt before we ran fast and spoke about the importance of staying fit and healthy all the time. Great work Nursery. Keep going with staying fit and healthy.
Understanding the World
This month in Nursery we have been learning about the different seasons. We have been focusing on Spring and what happens around us during this season. We have been learning the term blossom and what colour blossom is. We went for a nature walk to see the changing trees and to look at what other changes we might have spotted as Spring has arrived. Our children learnt about how little insects start to appear in Spring such as bees and ladybirds and what different plants and flowers start to appear. Our children in Nursery loved to create their own Spring trees whilst learning the technique of finger painting.
