February 2021

During our remote learning we still managed to cover lots of different areas of learning! In science, we learnt about animals and their different diets. We looked at some poop on the camera and identified which ones must have been left by herbivores, carnivores on omnivores – luckily it wasn’t real! In art, we focused on our drawing skills and did some observational drawings on fruit. We also learnt about colours and how they can represent different moods, which resulted in us creating ‘sad’ rainbows using blues, greys and greens. We started a new book called ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch’ and drew story maps to order the events in the story and we wrote about out likes, dislikes, patterns and questions we had (All the Ws sentences). In maths, we learnt all about the appearance and value of the different coins we use in England. Mrs Stoker said this about our music lessons:

‘I’m so proud of how year one have participated in online music lessons. We have continued to focus on action songs, body percussion, and used home percussion instruments such as saucepans or coffee pots. The children have learnt to follow a graphic score (pictures of body sounds) and have begun to follow rhythm patterns on a grid. They have developed control of their pulse beats including tempo (speed) and dynamics (volume).’
