September 2020

In Year 1 we have been enjoying our time settling in together. We have been learning about our class birds and how they set examples for us.

Flamingo class has learnt that the Gurbani teaches us how the flamingo never forgets its children no matter how far it flies. Just like the flamingo, no matter where we are in life, we should always remember God and know that God always remembers us. Rainbird class has learnt that the Gurbani teaches us that the rainbird is a symbol of love and joy and we should recite Simran like the rainbird calls out for rain.

We wrote some simple sentences about our class bird and also labelled a drawing of our bird. After learning about the qualities of our class birds, we then thought about the qualities that we want to show this year. We discussed different words such as ‘safe’, ‘happy’, ‘compassionate, and ‘helpful’. We then wrote these important words on the colourful handprints we made and pieced them together to create a beautiful class bird!

We have been thinking hard about the targets we want to achieve this year and decided how we will ‘Reach for the Stars’. We carefully wrote these targets onto special paper and put them inside our footprint rockets that we made in the first weeks of Year 1. Now they are proudly on our board to remind us to always try our best.

We are learning to become more independent with our learning and we have impressed our teachers with how much we have grown up in just a few weeks! We can’t wait to get stuck in to more new learning.
