Children have started their DT project in Art and have been looking at designing their own animal hand puppet. Children have been very excited to learn new stitches in textiles especially the running stitch and blanket stitch. During class discussions children have started to evaluate their own work and make amendments to their designs based on what they think they need to change or improve to make it a better design. Children have been looking at animal hand puppets because they are relating their textiles design to their English topic. In English we are reading the ‘Tadpoles promise’ by Jeanne Willis. We have been looking at the different language used in the book especially the variety of verbs. Children have really enjoyed reading this book as it does have a dramatic ending. This month our whole school topic is around the ‘Magic month of May’, we have been learning about the different lifecycles of animals and humans as well as plants. To further embed children’s learning we have had the privilege of having some chicks stay with us for two weeks. Children have had a great time watching the eggs hatch. We have been holding the chicks and talking about the importance of keeping healthy and clean when looking after pets. In Maths we have been consolidating our learning and have revisited place value, addition and subtraction. We have been looking at how to tell the time as well as looking at fractions.
