Mrs Clarke and Mrs Athwal warmly welcome you to Year 3.
The aim of this page is to highlight some of the fantastic learning that has been happening in Year 3, this page will be updated monthly, with photographs and information about the learning we have completed during the month.
We hope you enjoy looking through these updates and do discuss your child’s learning with them to celebrate their success. We look forward to any suggestions you may have to make your child’s learning a pleasant experience.
December 2021
What a busy month it has been in Year 3 this December!
In Art we have continued and completed our DT project. The children learned about designing their projects, different types of stitches and then finally putting their product together. They have been discussing with each other about how difficult it is for the Princess and Warrior to travel through the forest without anything to hold their essentials in so that is why they have designed a bag.
In English, the children have finished writing their story about Popoca and Itza who get lost in the deep dangerous forest whilst on their journey to home. They have used expanded noun phrases, conjunctions, speech phrases, and even onomatopoeia to write their story with as much detail as possible. The children have had fantastic ideas! It has been a lot of fun and interesting to see how each story ends.
As December is a celebration month for many, the children have learned that the month of December is also a difficult time for Sikhs everywhere. This month the children have been remembering the Chaar Sahibzade and Mata Gujri Ji who sacrificed their lives for the Sikh religion. The children have watched the movie Chaar Sahibzade and during Sikh Studies they have been learning the sakhi of how the young Sahibzade became martyrs. They have discussed why it is a time of remembrance and acknowledgement and the significance of coming together and singing Shabads in their memory.
This term the children also thoroughly enjoyed watching the Christmas panto Aladdin in school with their friends. They also got to sit together as a school community (in our bubbles of course!) and enjoy a delicious Winter lunch! The children also had an opportunity to bake and decorate their own Mexican sugar cookies. They were so excited about this as they were able to see the whole process from start to finish. The children did a great job at working as a team and we can already see them developing into little chefs!
It was really lovely to see all the children laughing, smiling and enjoying themselves – they really deserve it after working so hard all term. We are looking forward to coming back in the New Year and learning about our new topics. It is definitely going to be a great learning adventure!
