February 2021

The children came back after half term with boundless energy ready to start a new term and a new topic. Even though they had to restart with online learning they were excited and focused.  We started the term by looking at the Ancient Greeks and did a couple of lessons on Greek gods and Greek architecture. Many of the children designed their own Greek gods and were excited and intrigued by the myths and fables of that ancient time. We also began exploring how to write a diary entry and learnt how to write a new Alan Peat sentence; the emotion, comma sentence.  The children begun to look at different types of materials to prepare for our art topic and researched some different types of Greek clothing.  In maths we finished of our fractions module and the children learnt how to add and subtract fractions with the same denominator.  In Science we started our states of matter module and looked at how to recognise as well as to define what is a solid, liquid or a gas. We also had a look at some conundrums.  As a class, we discussed and debated a problem without a clear answer.  The children were assigned different sides and use their persuasion skills to try to sway their classmates’ minds.
