Welcome to Life at KPS for Year 5

Mrs Van Rooyen and Mrs Sharma warmly welcome you to Year 5.

The aim of this page is to highlight some of the fantastic learning that has been happening in Year 5, this page will be updated monthly, with photographs and information about the learning we have completed during the month.

We hope you enjoy looking through these updates and do discuss your child’s learning with them to celebrate their success. We look forward to any suggestions you may have to make your child’s learning a pleasant experience.

July 2022

This month we have been focussing on our new Maths topic: Position & Direction. We have looked at coordinates and quadrants, translations and reflections with coordinates. The children have been getting on really well with this topic and they all seem to be enjoying it! They have even had a go at drawing images using coordinates.

We have also been looking in a lot of detail at two battles: The Battle of Stamford Bridge and The Battle of Hastings. We talked about the difference sides involved in these battles and we even created our own storyboards to show the key events leading up to the Battle of Hastings. We are working hard at creating our own story descriptions for the battle and these are coming along very well.

We also had a fantastic day at Black Park where we did some observational drawings, had a beautiful nature walk and of course had some tasty food in our picnic!

We have had a very busy month and have worked so hard! The children have had the opportunity to meet their new teacher on Transition Day!  They asked lots of questions about Year 6 and took part in “Get to know you” activities.  We are looking forward to seeing how they blossom at the top the school in Year 6.
