5 Crow

We have had an amazing start to the year. We began by looking at our class rules and behavior expectations. We designed a class charter together based on our school code of conduct – be ready; be safe; be respectful – we came together and decided how we can meet these rules and how we can show respect all around the school. For Crow Class we decided it was important that we:

  1. Always respect each other
  2. Always try our best and stay positive
  3. Always be honest and truthful

We did some team-building exercises and games to bond together as a class and even introduced some fun bits to give our class its own identity. We have chosen to introduce a ‘Star of the Week’ and a ‘General Knowledge Brain Teaser’.

We have done a lot of work surrounding our Crow Birds. We have created our own sketches of Crows, some even chose to do cartoon drawings. They look brilliant. We also focused on the importance of the Crow in Sikhi and looked at some amazing Crow Facts to make our own Fact Files.

5 Raven

We started this year very excitedly and firstly, we discussed rules and expectations. We also looked at the school vision and learnt that to be a good student, we need to be: ready, safe and respectful. During class discussions, we then also agreed on a class charter. In order to learn well, we need to listen look and listen at the adult teaching us, but we will also do the same if one of our friends are busy sharing some learning. We also agreed to always have all our necessary equipment in school in order to be ready to learn!

We also looked at the importance of the raven and learnt the significance of our bird in the Gurbani.

We then did lots of work on our class bird, the Raven. We watched interesting videos about a raven called, Fable and learnt that ravens are really clever and inquisitive birds. Fable showed us how ravens can talk and solve puzzles! We read ravens facts and completed a reading comprehension task. We learnt about a poetry form, which is the ‘cento’ and used the famous poem by E.A. Poe – The Raven – to write our own using this form of poetry.

In art, we did some cartoon raven-drawings and then we learnt everything about water colour paint: hues, tints, tone and shading.

In the afternoons, after lunch, we like to do meditation. We feel that it calms us down and we are getting ready for more learning during the afternoon.
