December 2021
What an end of a hectic term this month, we have been extremely busy! In English we have been working hard to write our setting descriptions of Andes mountains. We have been using different techniques to create our own ideas to write a narrative with a view to entertain the reader. We have focused particularly on using similes, metaphors, personification and other descriptive vocabulary which uses imagery to hook the reader in our fiction world. Our other focus was to use: relative clauses, fronted adverbials, prepositional phrases, expanded noun phrases and different Alan Peat sentences. We also used our senses to create emotive language to describe the character’s emotions. The children have shared such brilliant ideas and have really impressed us with the use of descriptive language in their writing.
In Math, we have worked at improving our skills using factors to work out long division, common multiples, prime numbers, square and cube numbers, order of operation. We have fun at working out the order of operation as we had to apply our skills in working out how to solve the brackets and indices.
What busy and exciting days we have had in Year 6!! A lot of flurry and mini chefs in making!! Children had lots of fun learning to measure, mix, bake and decorate their proud creations of sweet heaven!! Hope you all have enjoyed the treats children took home with them, I am sure they had a lot of interesting stories to retell and share…
In addition to these subjects we have also been busy with other subjects. In Geography we have been looking at biomes around the world. We also used atlases to locate different temperate zones and researched facts about different biomes.
In PSHE we continued to look at our fundamental British Values with a particular focus on Democracy and how we incorporate British values into our everyday lives along with our Khalsa values. Children have taken part in putting their views and ideas forward to be elected for the most prestigious honour of representing the school as the head boy/ girl, we all eagerly await the results for the successful candidate, who will help make the school a better place for learning. We have also focused on resilience and how it is an extremely important quality to have.
December is a difficult month for Sikhs as we remember the Chaar Sahibzade and Mata Guru Ji who sacrificed their lives for Sikhi. We have discussed this together and we know why it is a time of remembrance.
We have also discussed how, December is the month of celebration for many other religious faiths. In RE we looked at the story of Christmas and learnt about why and how Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. We also discussed the events leading up to the miraculous birth and the significance behind the gifts given to baby Jesus by the three wise men at his birth.
This month children have also thoroughly enjoyed watching the Aladdin pantomime in school! We watched together, laughed together and definitely found it very entertaining! We also got the chance to enjoy a lovely Winter Lunch on Christmas Jumper Day, with Christmas crackers and festive hats!
It has been an amazing journey this term and we have really enjoyed all the hard work and fun we have had so far. It’s lovely to see the children smiling and enjoying themselves. We look forward to the next term and our new topic in the new term of 2022.
