Welcome to Life at KPS for Reception

Mr Sembhi and Mrs Virdee warmly welcome you to Reception.

The aim of this page is to highlight some of the fantastic learning that has been happening in Reception, this page will be updated monthly, with photographs and information about the learning we have completed during the month.

We hope you enjoy looking through these updates and do discuss your child’s learning with them to celebrate their success. We look forward to any suggestions you may have to make your child’s learning a pleasant experience.

June 2021

Communication and Language

This term our children have been making lots of exciting and yummy food in the food tech room. Our children have been really excited to use all the cooking equipment and tools. Our children have been working in partners to name all the new equipment they have been using. They have been discussin how and why it is important to stay safe when cooking. We have been encouraging our children to speak in full sentences which include the words, ‘and’ and ‘because’ as well as using the new food vocabulary within their talk.

Expressive arts and design

This term, we have been looking at the importance of bees in the environment and why they are so important to us. We have been reading the story The Bumble Bear by Nadia Shireen and discussing how bees make honey, process pollination, what a queen bee is, the different parts of a bee, how to identify a bee and the different between a male and female bee. During our music lessons, our children have learnt a new song called, ‘Busy Busy Bumble Bee’ where our children have really enjoyed singing the song using music instruments and also creating their own actions and dance moves.

Literacy

This term, we have been really pleased to see how our children have been implementing writing into their creative work. Our children have been making different sea animals such as jelly fish and dolphins and they have been writing about the impact wasting plastic has on our ocean and sealife. We have been encouraging our children to always think about applying the correct phonics sounds, finger spaces, correct letter formation and reading back their work when doing any form of writing.

Mathematics

This term, we have been looking at the topic of money within our maths lessons. Our children have really enjoyed exploring, identifying and sorting different types of coins. They have been looking at 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p, £1 and £2 coins.We have been encouraging our children to use the term pence and pound when talking about any form of money. Our children really enjoyed using the different coins when taking part in shop role play and doing coin rubbings.

Physical Development

This term, our children have been talking about what is considered as healthy choices and why eating healthy is important towards the development of our body.

We have been encouraging our children to make healthy choices within our role play area (kitchen role play) in the classroom and whilst in the dinner hall. We are really please to see how our children are able to independently make healthy choices and are beginning to use knife and fork to cut their food by themselves.

PSED

This term, we have been looking at why looking after our environment is very important and we have been focussing on the term recycling. Our children have been looking at a variety of different materials and discussing what materials can be recycled and what cannot. Our children have been exploring how our local council have also helped to look after the environment. For example we have been looking at recycling that happens within Slough and children discussed the different coloured waste bins we have in the Borough.

Understanding the World

This term we have been spending a lot of time exploring and taking part in planting lots of types of herbs and seeds. Our children have really enjoyed digging, watering and maintaining the plants and flowers that have been growing in our outside garden area. We have been encouraging our children to talk about and name all the different garden equipment they have been using as awell as the name of different herbs that have been growing. Our children really enjoy watering the plants and herbs in the garden and are able to explain why water is an important factor in plants and herbs to grow
