Communication and Language

In Reception, our children have been looking at the story of The Little Red Hen. They have been exploring the different characters and settings from the story through their sensory skills. They have been doing this by exploring the Tuff spot which contains a variety of characters and settings from the story. They have been looking at what they can.  Our Reception children can see, smell, feel and hear and making a link with this to the story. They have been saying key phrases from the story and have been working together to retell the beginning, middle and end of the story. Amazing work Reception. Keep this going!

Expressive arts and design

As part of the story of The Little Red Hen, our Reception children have been looking at the skill of Weaving. They have been looking at what the term weaving means and how to actually weave. In Reception, we have been learning to use strips of sugar paper to create paper weaves. Our children have been doing so well. They have been keeping in mind the words ‘under’ and ‘over’ when they have been weaving. Reception children have done so well and can independently create paper weaves. They will move onto creating a massive scene from the Little Rec Hen story using colourful materials. This massive scene will be in the form of weaving. Great work Reception.

Literacy

In Reception, our children love to read a variety of fiction and non-fiction books. They have been reading simple sentences using their phonic skills. They have been encouraged to segment the sounds that they see in a word and try and blend them together. Great reading Reception. Keep this skill going. In Reception, we have been looking at the importance of comprehension. Our children have been looking at understanding what they have been reading. We have been doing this via a lot of in-depth questioning of a book our children have been reading. Keep this skill going Reception.

Mathematics

In Reception, we have looking at the word ’doubling’. Our children have been using a variety of different objects to try and double numbers up to 10. They have been using cubes, numicons, pencils etc to find the total of a number when it is doubled. Our children have been looking at what happens to a number and the amount of objects when they are doubled. They are able to explore and explain that when a number is doubled it gets bigger and when objects are doubled there is more of them. Great exploring of numbers Reception.

Physical Development

Our Reception children loved to explore the water tank in the garden area. They worked together to get different size buckets and fill them up with water. They then were able to go and water the plants and seeds in our garden area. Great Team work Reception!

Our Reception children were able to explain what safety measures they need to take when using the water pump and why they need to wear wellington boots when playing with the buckets and water. Our Reception children were able to listen to each other and take turns to share the water equipment which allowed every single child to have a go at using the water pump. Amazing work Reception. We are all so proud of your team work.

PSED

Our Reception children worked together to create a character from the story of The Little Red Hen. They were able to select the correct art tools and use them safely. Our children are very confident in asking for any help or support that they need when they come across a difficult task that they are working on. Whilst decorating the Little Red Hen, our children were able to listen to each other and help each other when they needed any support. They were able to independently share the art equipment with one another. Well done Reception.

Understanding the World

This term in Reception, our children have been really enjoying the garden are outside. They have been planting a variety of different seeds and herbs in our garden beds. Whilst gardening, our children have been looking at what safety measures they need to take when gardening and how to handle garden tools. They have been exploring the names of different seeds and herbs and what they look and smell like. Our children have been watering the seeds and herbs every Monday and Friday and can explain why it is important to water them. Great work Reception for looking after living things around us.
