Communication and Language

It has been a great joy to see the amount of excitement and joy children in Reception have had whilst creating their sensory bottles. Our children used a variety of different objects to fill their water bottles up and create different sensory. During our circle time, children have been encouraged to talk in sentences using words such as ‘and’ and ‘because’ when talking about what they have created and how they created their sensory bottles. It has been great to see all our children take part in speaking to the rest of the class so well done Reception!

Expressive arts and design

Our children have been so creative in Reception where they have been using recyclable materials such as paper, cardboard and plastic to produce pieces of amazing creative work. They have been learning to use a variety of different materials and tools to connect and assemble objects together from cello-tape, glue and masking tape. Our children have created sea creatures using milk cartons, paint, paper, straws and glue! Our children have been so proud to share their work with the rest of the class and explain how they went about creating their models and structures. Great job Reception!

Literacy

It has been a joy to see how much fun and engagement our Reception children have when reading lots of books in school. They are able to segment and blend words and are able to read simple sentences by themselves and with their friends. We love to listen to our children read to each other and to the whole class. Our children can explain in detail what a character is and can even describe their favourite character. They are able to talk about settings and what happens in the beginning, middle and end of a story. Amazing work Reception!

Mathematics

In Reception our children have been looking at what a repeated pattern is. They have been looking closely at using different shapes and objects to create a repeated pattern and explain how they created their repeated pattern. Our children were able to use 3 and more objects, shapes and colours to create their repeated pattern. During circle time, our children were able to share their repeated patterns with the rest of the class and explain why thy think it is a repeated pattern. Amazing work Reception!

Physical Development

Our Reception children love to make a variety of different types of delicious food in the Food Tech room where they have been exploring what terms such as ‘kitchen equipment’, ‘ingredients’ and ‘hygiene’ mean. Our children have been making a potato salad where they have been looking closely at what ingredients they need to make it and they have been looking at following instructions. Our children have been focusing on their listening and speaking skills as well as using a children’s safety knife when cutting the potatoes. We have been looking closely at what safety measures need to be taken when handling a knife in the kitchen as well as other kitchen equipment.

Understanding the World

In Reception our children have been learning about what the tern ‘Recycling’ means. They have been looking at the different types of materials such as paper, plastic, glass and metal. They have been sorting the materials out and explaining what can be recycled. Our children have been explaining why the need to recycle and what the impact of not recycling will have on the environment such as plastic bags going into the water and harming our sea creatures. We have also been looking at how recycling happens in the United Kingdom. Our children have been using recyclable materials to produce different creative work. Well done Reception!
