Drawing and painting

Draw your home

Ask your child to shut their eyes and imagine what their home
looks like from the front

Ask them to draw what they imagined – describe the building they have drawn – is it really like their house?

Go outside if you can and
compare the picture with your home (or use a photo or Google Street View). Compare window numbers, door position and roof shape.

What other features can you see?

Understanding the World

Sorting toys by the material
they are made from

Can we find out how which
materials are most commonly used in toys?

Gather together some toys
and discuss the type of materials they are made from (wood, plastic, metal, fabric, etc.)

Encourage your child to sort them by material. If you come across an object which is made of more than one, encourage your child to think of a solution
(i.e. have a ‘mixed’ group).
